Arizona Jean Co. (AJC) is JCPenney’s premier private label brand. But over time, it had lost touch with a younger audience. We were asked to reestablish its relevance in the highly competitive jeans category while keeping the original name intact.

The ethos is expressed through direct, affirming language and bold, uncluttered typography that keeps the focus on the individual. Simple, confident statements reinforce the idea that personal style is a mindset—lived, worn, and owned every day.

A rapid-fire series of denim-inspired one-liners, the campaign uses sharp wordplay and cultural nods to capture youth attention in seconds—built to scroll, stop, and stick across social and digital platforms. Created in collaboration with writer Jill Palmquist, the voice balances wit and attitude to make the brand feel instantly current and unmistakably confident.
Graphic Foundation

We established the Graphic Foundation, pairing color palettes, typefaces, and a custom pattern to balance boldness with a weathered, textured feel.
Logo Design
Designed from scratch, the logo channels the hand-painted letterforms found on vintage brick buildings, bringing our visualization’s character to life.

Monogram Design
We designed monograms as a way of branding without having to use the full logo lockup.

Texture Creation
Developed custom textures that add depth and tactile character, enhancing visual storytelling and reinforcing the brand’s expressive character.

Ethos Design
This design solution connects the Brand Pillars to execution through a mix-and-match typography system that reflects how Arizona apparel fits any situation.

Photography Tiers
We defined photo characteristics, lifestyle scenarios by age and gender, and on-figure expressions of playfulness using simple, economical set design. Natural lighting and minimal styling created the feeling of being outside, living life.


On-Product
Wayfinding

A collection of tactile details works together as a subtle guidance system, helping customers understand fit, style, and product stories at a glance. These small, crafted touchpoints blend function with personality, reinforcing authenticity, quality, and the spirit of independence.
Wrapper & Matchbook Template Design
Compact, tactile pieces extend the brand story beyond the garment, delivering quick hits of attitude, craft, and authenticity.

Heat Transfer
A stylized interpretation of the brand ethos appears as a subtle, graphic statement applied directly to the product. It functions as a quiet reminder of the brand’s point of view—personal, confident, and built for self-expression.

Hardware & Appliques
Functional details are treated as small design statements, adding character and durability to each piece. These elements balance utility with craftsmanship, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to authenticity and timeless style.
